Pay Equity Update

Canada Post is pleased to have reached a Memorandum of Agreement with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), in accordance with the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal pay equity ruling confirmed on November 17, 2011 by the Supreme Court of Canada.

This Agreement, consistent with the ruling and requiring the Tribunal’s confirmation, is consistent with other public-sector pay equity agreements and provides the certainty and clarity required to begin proceeding with payments to eligible employees.

While the Corporation is facing a difficult financial situation, it takes the payments related to the court ruling seriously. A dedicated team of employees has already been carefully reviewing tens of thousands of individual employee files and records – both paper and electronic – that span decades. That complex work will continue in order to determine eligibility and apply the Memorandum of Agreement.

The Corporation understands that current and former employees who may be eligible for payment are eager to understand the personal impact of the ruling. Canada Post expects to begin making some payments on August 1, 2013, but given the level of work required to close each file, completing this process will take time. Those former and current employees who are eligible will be notified in writing as the process unfolds.

Canada Post will continue to update the dedicated website at www.canadapostpayequity.ca.
